Italian roast is the denomination for a somewhat darker roast for strong coffee and full-bodied espresso customary in South Italy.

I only know a few people who know their way around with coffee and its optimal roasting as Mr Scharaffia, Mr Tismer and his wife Kusaya, called VEE. One could think they have only put it into their heads to roast grade 1 coffee for life. A Mercedes would not be enough for them; their requirements to raw coffee at least have to be Maybach standard. It sounds quite ambitious, nevertheless VEE Caffè does put these maxims into practice, and very consistently so. They still roast hand-selected high-grown gourmet Arabica coffees from about 2000m, what are called Grand Cru coffees from Indonesia, East Africa and Latin America.

Only the Grand Cru coffees, growing in high mountain regions under excellent climatic conditions to ripeness more slowly, which makes them much harder, are suited for careful, intense and substantially more aromatic roasts. That is why all VEE coffees develop their characteristic fragrance, an intense aroma and all nuances typical of coffee flavour to the full, something of which supermarket coffees do not have the slightest hint. Besides, VEE coffees have much lower acidity, are richer and possess long lasting aromas. The freshly roasted beans release such intense fragrance.

Italian roast is the denomination for a somewhat darker roast for strong coffee and full-bodied espresso customary in South Italy. Originally the dark roast was meant to cover up defects of cheap coffees. VEE uses a blend of selected high-grown coffees from East Africa, Latin America and Indonesia. Each varietal is roasted separately and assumes a shiny coating due to the aromatic oil that rises to the surface. As a result, a well balanced, deep and complex blend emerges with noble richness, fine acidity and intense fruity, earthy and spicy aromas.

We recommend the Italian Roast d'Oro for aromatic coffee and preparing a delightfully velvety espresso with much crema or as Cappuccino; with excellent richness and aroma, low acidity and deep, complex and chocolaty aromas and a marvellous long presence.
