Martella Caffè is a top-class roast made in the best Italian tradition with much passion and love – mild and exquisite in flavour with a slightly chocolaty aroma. Generations of the Martella family were working as Baristas and roasters for important Italian coffeehouses before the Martella brothers set out on separate ways. While Azeglio Martella takes care of the traditional family business Haiti Sud, the other Martella brother established his own business, Martella, in via Garibaldi in the centre of Rome. Recommended by Mr. Modersohn we are now offering the two brands Maximum (90/10) and Mirius (80/20).
Martella Mirius Class is somewhat lighter in colour than Maximum Class but very consistent and virtually without broken beans which is indicative of a very high quality. Martella Mirius Class has clearly sweet malty notes which give it a wonderful aroma. Its volume and richness are lacking slightly the strength of Maximum Class. However, it is very good still. As an espresso it is really prefect, for classical Cappuccino or Latte Macchiato it is not quite so optimal. 20% of first-rate Robusta produce a fantastic crema.
