Blaser’s Brazil Corazon is made of 100% best Arabica coffee with a rich flavour. These Arabica coffees are grown at elevations between roughly 4,000 and 5,000 feet.
And it is a truly extraordinary pleasure to taste their smooth and full-bodied aroma, excellent texture, extremely mild harmonious acidity as well as perfect balance and presence.
Brazil is justifiably called a giant in the coffee market with its more than 4 million coffee trees. 75% of the crop which encompasses a sheer unimaginable variety of hybrids and varietals are produced by small farmers. In the world market the coffee which is mostly washed and sun-dried comes in the main categories Brazil, mild and other Arabica.
Although coffee is grown in 17 out of the 26 Brazilian states only 4 states, i.e. Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo account for 98% of the entire crop, of which Paraná in the South of the country produces 50% alone.
The region along the Northwest coast produces coffee with the typical salty flavour of seawater which is mainly exported to Northern Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
Bahia is among the most interesting and best varietals. Unfortunately this varietal is very hard to come by since Brazil, apart from exports to the USA, uses most of its coffee at home so that many superior coffees are not available for the export market.
Contrary to many beliefs Brazilian Robusta coffees are only standard consumer quality such as available in supermarkets. In Minas Gerais state old Bourbon varietals were discovered recently in the Cerrado regions which are now offered as plantation coffee such as Capin Branco and Vista Allegre. Capin Branco is milder in flavour than the rather spicy and fruity Vista Allegre. Both are relatively low in acidity. Yet, as with all Brazilian coffee they should be used as long as they are young because they develop too much acid when stored for a long time.
Apart from a number of Arabica varietals they also grow Conillon, a Robusta varietal. The plants introduced in French Guyana in 1720 usually produce average quality. However, there are also very good qualities in part. There is something for every taste. Rio which has a medicinal flavour is being consumed in Brazil. The coffees grown in the North near the coast have a flavour of the sea and the newly cultivated old Bourbon beans grown in the south eastern Cerada region are mild and low in acidity.
Devastating sudden frosts in the South of the country have grave effects on the world market. That is why the Brazilian economy regained its independence from the once dominating coffee industry which was strictly supervised and regimented by the state until 1990. And the times when overproduction was dumped into the sea to keep prices in the world market stable are also over.
